Trends AP ryots' welfare panel interim report in Dec Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Oct. 28 THE Commission on Farmers Welfare set up by the Andhra Pradesh Government will submit its interim report to the State Government by December first week and the final one a month later. Stating this at a press conference here on Thursday, the Chairperson of the commission, Dr Jayati Ghosh, said the complaints received by the commission from farmers, so far, pertained mainly to the areas of credit, water, marketing, land and spurious inputs. She said although the farmers welcomed free power supply, they had grievances over duration, erratic supply and voltage fluctuation. The farmers wanted the duration of power supply to be raised from the existing seven hours to nine. They also favoured large irrigation projects. Spurious seed supply, overuse of pesticides and fertilisers and unclear land titles were the other areas of concern. Dr Ghosh said the crisis in agriculture in the State was complex. Non-agriculture employment was low. She supported the Government's efforts to discourage paddy and said coarse grains should form part of the public distribution system.
