Accidents Fire at commercial complex in Mumbai Our Bureau
An early morning fire gutted the Centre Point building in the commercial district of Central Mumbai. The building housed several establishments, including offices belonging to Nicholas Piramal and Pritish Nandy Communications. Shashi Ashiwal .
Mumbai , Oct. 29 FIRE in the early hours of Friday morning at the Centre Point building, located in Central Mumbai, destroyed a few offices including the administrative office of Nicholas Piramal Ltd. No casualties were reported, though there has been damage to property. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and no estimates have been put yet to the damage caused by the fire. The several commercial establishments located at Centre Point include Nicholas Piramal's human resource and administrative departments, Boots Piramal and Gujarat Glass, offices belonging to Centurion Bank, Pritish Nandy Communications and a garments company. The Nicholas Piramal Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, Mr Vijay Shah, told Business Line that the fire started at 4 a.m. and, hence, no personnel were present in the building. "Since we were in the process of shifting (in a month's time) to a new premise in the vicinity, there was little damage." Furniture, computers and some equipment are reported to have been gutted in the fire. However, he added, "Operations of the office would not be disrupted as the servers for these establishments were at the company's new office premises. We will be up and running tomorrow." All the company's personnel are safe and the staff from the Centre Point office will be accommodated at the company's corporate office at Morarjee Mills Compound, away from Centre Point, he added. Meanwhile, in its comminication to the BSE, Pritish Nandy Communications Ltd said that its registered office was located in the building. "There has been no casualty and damage to life. All company personnel are safe," it added.
