IA launches `family ticket' scheme

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Oct. 30

INDIAN Airlines (IA) on Saturday announced the `family ticket' scheme which allows two children below 12 years of age to travel free with their parents.

The scheme, which comes into effect from November 1 this year and remains in force till January 31 next year, allows parents travelling with IA on a full fare economy ticket to take along two children, below 12 years of age, free of cost.

In case one of the two children travelling with the parents is between 12-18 years of age while the other is younger than 12, then the elder child can also travel by paying just 50 per cent of the fare, an airline spokesman said.

The scheme is valid for both one-way and round-trip travel in economy class within the country. The scheme, however, is not available on the short-haul flights which the airline operates with the smaller ATR and Dornier aircraft.

To avail of the offer, the passengers will have to fill up a form and they could be asked to produce a certificate in case the child looks older than 12 years although may actually be younger. The children travelling free will have to pay Rs 200 as passenger service fee which is levied by the Airports Authority of India, the IA spokesman said.
