Transfer of Governors

This is with reference to "Nasty trends" (Business Line, November 1). It is deplorable that the post of Governor has been politicised.

True, the Governor holds office during the pleasure of the President. But the expression `pleasure' does not give carte blanche for arbitrary removal of the Governor on weak grounds.

The Sarkaria Commission and the National Commission of Review of the Working of Constitution have recommended that the Chief Ministers should be consulted before appointment and removal of Governors.

C. Ramesh
