US elections

The recent debate on foreign policy issues between the two candidates for the US presidential elections was dominated by Iraq and the war on terrorism.

The US President, Mr George Bush, has been responsible for stalling and virtually killing the CTBT and stressed that he is concerned about the spread of WMD (weapons of mass destruction) to `terrorist' groups.

Mr Bush also stressed his resolve to build the anti-missile defence shield.

The Democratic candidate, Mr John Kerry, also stressed his preference for a multilateral approach to all issues as opposed to Bush's unilateralism.

What all this clearly brings out is that Mr Kerry and his Democratic party have a much more serious `ideological' position on proliferation, almost bordering on fundamentalism.
