The Hindu Business Line : V.P. Shetty takes charge as Canara Bank CMD

Mr Shetty, who has been the Chairman and Managing Director of United Commercial Bank, started his career in Canara Bank and later joined Vijaya Bank in 1973. He worked in several capacities in the bank before becoming the General Manager. He later moved to UCO Bank as its Executive Director and later assumed the responsibility of CMD of UCO Bank in October 2000.

Mr Shetty succeeds Mr R.V. Shastri who retired on October 31. Mr Shetty is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Indian Banking Association and on the boards of LIC and Agriculture Finance Corporation.
