Tea plantations resume at Peerumedu

KOTTAYAM: The tea plantations under Harrison Malayalam in Peerumedu will resume its regular activities on November 3, according to reports reaching here.

The decision was taken at a meeting convened by the Labour Minister Mr Babu Divakaran at Thiruvananthapuram. The tea plantations at Pattumala, Valady and Moonkalar have not been working over the last hundred days. According to the agreement, each labourer would get Rs 1,500 as advance. The remaining issues would be discussed further, it is learnt.

The Chief Minister, Mr Oomman Chandy, who visited Vandiperiyar recently had assured the union leaders that all the tea plantations under Harrison Malayalam would be opened at the earliest.

Mr Cyriac Thomas, Advocate, Union President HRPE (INTUC) and Mr S.C. Ayyadorai, General Secretary, complimented the Chief Minister for his active involvement in solving the plantation problems.
