Hyderabad , Nov. 2

The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, will hold a high-level meeting this week to discuss the problems of AP State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) and come out with a package to solve them.

Announcing this here on Tuesday at the launch of `Quality Month' celebrations, the Minister for Transport, Mr S. Santosh Reddy, said the Corporation was weighed down by losses to the tune of Rs 1,055 crore.

"Losses are mostly due to concessions the corporate gives to students, freedom fighters and people's representatives," he said. "Yet, the Corporation never lags behind in offering quality services to the passengers," he said.

The Government would do everything to protect the Corporation. Mr Santosh Reddy and his Cabinet colleague, Ms N. Rajyalakshmi, released posters to promote the month-long quality campaign. The campaign was being taken up by Quality Circle Forum of India (QCFI) and APSRTC.

Joining the campaign, the two Hyderabad Public Schools (Begumpet and Ramanthapur) decided to conduct a poster campaign for the students. The idea was to inculcate quality consciousness among the students.

Mr Gautam Kumar, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of APSRTC, said, "We started quality circles in the organisations 15 years ago when there was no competition to the organisation."

Ch. Balakrishna Rao, Executive Director (Hyderabad and Karimnagar Zones), said the quality movement was aimed at unleashing the creative potential and empowering the workers at the grass root level.

During the month-long campaign, the Hyderabad Chapter of QCFI intended to increase awareness for quality in all organisations - manufacturing and services.
