Reliance Infocomm launches broadband centres in Mangalore

RELIANCE Infocomm launched "Real Broad Band" centres at two of its webworlds in Mangalore on Thursday.

Mr Akhilesh Prasad, Circle Head, Reliance Webstore Pvt Ltd, who launched the facility at Bunt's Hostel Road webworld, told presspersons that Mangalore is the third city in the State to enter Real Broad Band. Bangalore and Mysore are the other two centres. Very soon the facility would be launched in Dharwad, he said.

Stating that broadband centres are available in 14 cities in the country, he said 100 more towns would get this facility soon. Many corporates are using the video conferencing facility at these centres for launching their products and interviewing candidates for recruitment, he added.

Mr Viney Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Karnataka Circle, Reliance Infocomm, said that people of Mangalore could reach out to their friends, relatives and colleagues via video conferencing at affordable rates with this facility.

Asked about the expansion plans, Mr Singh said Reliance Infocomm would provide best coverage in Karnataka by March 2005. The company has earmarked Rs 300 crore for expanding its network. By March 2005, there will be 6,341 km of optical fibre cable network in the State, he said, adding that it is covering major hill stations, railway routes and tourist centres.

Asked when the services of R-World, which are free for the time being, will be charged, Mr Singh said the company is yet to finalise a date in this regard.
