THE Justice Somasekhara Commission resumed the probe into the Yeleru land scam here and received petitions from the public on Wednesday and Thursday.
In the early nineties the administration had acquired lands in Visakhapatnam district for laying the Yeleru canal to bring waters from the Yeleru reservoir in East Godavari to Visakhapatnam steel plant.
There were allegations of widespread irregularities in the land acquisition process and it was alleged that farmers had been robbed of compensation declared by the Government. The Government had then constituted the Justice Somasekhara commission to go into the issue but subsequently it was wound up. The Congress Government revived the commission after its return to power, directing it to submit a report within six months.
Mr Justice Somasekhara said here on Thursday at a press meet that he would submit interim reports and try to finish the probe within the allotted time. The scam had rocked the State Assembly then and resulted in the dismissal of a sub-judge at Anakapalle. An advocate was arrested and proceedings had been launched against him.
