Bangalore , Nov. 5

IT majors, including HP, Intel, TCS, CISCO and Microsoft, on Friday signed individual MoUs with Kochi-based Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham to support AVV's satellite-based village resource centres (VRCs).

The companies will provide ground infrastructure and other IT-based systems for the 25 VRCs that Amrita will set up across the country.

The MoUs signed in the presence of ISRO Chairman, Mr G. Madhavan Nair, here are a follow-up of the tie-up between ISRO and the Vidyapeetham to start VRCs, ISRO said in a release.

On October 18, the Prime Minister inaugurated the first three VRCs set up by another agency, MS Swaminathan Research Foundation, in Tamil Nadu. The VRC initiative combines the capabilities of ISRO's communication and remote sensing satellites for interactive and basic rural services.
