EMPHASISING that benefits of rapid economic growth should flow out to all sections of society, particularly rural India, the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, on Friday mooted the idea of establishing rural business hubs and stressed on the need to invest "much more" in agriculture, irrigation and rural infrastructure.
Addressing the valedictory session of the national presentation on rural business hubs organised by the CII here, Dr Singh also stressed on the importance of integrating agricultural markets across the country and removing constraints so that farmers got far better remuneration for their produce through efficient, non-distorted markets.
"Even now, almost three-fourths of our population resides in rural areas and almost the same proportion is still dependent on agriculture for sustenance," Dr Singh said.
