AP to hike power generation

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Government has formulated a special scheme to enhance the installed capacity of power generation in the State by 2,700 MW in the next four years.

Following this, Andhra Pradesh, with a total installed capacity of 13,675 MW, will become the second largest power-generating State in the country, according to the Chairman of the A P Power Generation Corporation Ltd (APGenco), Mr D. K. Panwar.

In a press release here , APGenco said that it was also planning to increase its installed capacity from 6,561 MW to 9,275 MW during the next four years. The corporation's hydel power generation has increased from 766 million units (MU) in 2003-04 to 2,533 MU in the current year following substantial inflows into the reservoirs under the Krishna River basin.
