`TN admits to water diversion'

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Minister for Water Resources, Mr Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, has said here that Tamil Nadu has admitted to diverting waters allocated for Kerala under the Parambikulam-Aliyar agreement.

Speaking to newspersons here, Mr Radhakrishnan, who accompanied the Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, during the latter's visit to Chennai, said that the neighbouring State had also promised to rectify the situation.

During Mr Chandy's talks with his Tamil Nadu counterpart, Ms J. Jayalalithaa, it has been agreed that Tamil Nadu hand over to Kerala rights to 21 structures standing in the Parambikulam-Aliyar project area.

As per provisions of the original agreement, land and buildings used for the project were to be handed over to the State on completion of the works. However, only 69 buildings had been handed over so far.
