`Generator to be set right'

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has expressed confidence that the damage detected in one of the six generators at the Idukki hydel station will be set right within one month.

An official quoted Mr O.U. Jacob, Chief Engineer, Generation, as saying that a second generator too had to be shut down for annual maintenance at Idukki. Both repair and maintenance work will be completed well before the start of the dry season when the power station will be required to function full throttle, he said.

The shutting down of two generators at the biggest hydel station in the State does not necessarily mean a crisis situation in the power sector. According to Mr Jacob, the State has been receiving copious rainfall in recent times and the smaller hydel stations will have to be operated to full capacity to prevent their reservoirs from overflowing.

The Idukki reservoir has sufficient spare capacity to store the water flowing into its massive reservoir, Mr Jacob added.
