A marketplace for ideas at IIMB-Bangalore festival

Bangalore , Nov. 9

MORE than 500 teams and 3,000 participants across the country took part in Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore's (IIMB) annual management festival, VISTA 2004, held on November 5-7.

Participants included management students, practitioners and academicians in the field. This year was the concluding edition of the Strategise - Execute - Innovate anthology with the last of the three forming the theme for this year's events.

The fest saw the launch of a new idea to encourage innovative businesses in the country and also an exercise in consulting hitherto untried. The NS Raghavan Cell for Entrepreneurial Learning, an incubation cell at the IIMB, launched the Innovation Exchange, a marketplace for ideas at the event.

For the first time, the concept of Distributed Consulting was experimented with live cases. Open Source or Distributed Consulting aims at utilising the talents of various resources like students and executives present at an event to come out with innovative strategies for participating companies. This year, The National Kidney Foundation, Singapore, Cavin Kare and Kanbay gave out their problems in the form of cases and participants were encouraged to analyse and come up with solutions.

The event had a distinguished speaker series featuring Dr Bhaskar Chakravorti, Partner, Monitor Group; Dr Anji Reddy, Founder, Dr Reddy Laboratories, and Mr Som Mittal, Worldwide Head, Application Services, Hewlett-Packard.

Other events included games in marketing and finance paper presentations, a corporate strategy game and a business quiz. XLRI, Jamshedpur was declared the overall winner and was awarded the Alter Vista Trophy.
