Treatment for AIDS

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI: The Union Health and Family Minister, Dr Anbumani Ramadoss, has said that the free anti-retroviral treatment used for treatment for HIV/AIDS will be available at 25 centres across country, irrespective of whether these were high or low prevalent States.

While addressing the Secretaries of Health from the States and the Project Directors of State AIDS Control Societies, he said AIDS was not only a public health issue but also a socio-economic issue.

He said that re-evaluations of the National AIDS Control Organisation and the structure of the State level organisations would be done. He said the external agency would also carry out a survey of the incidence of AIDS in the next six months.

Dr Ramadoss said in a recent meeting chaired by the Human Resource Development Minister, Mr Arjun Singh, that it was agreed that awareness on HIV/AIDS would be included in the syllabi in schools.
