VSNL launches campaign against illegal calls

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Nov. 9

VIDESH Sanchar Nigam Ltd on Tuesday launched a media campaign to create awareness about illegal routing of international long distance calls.

The company, which has the largest share of the Indian ILD market, said almost 40 per cent of the incoming voice calls were terminated illegally, thereby, affecting the revenues of VSNL and BSNL.

"It has been our constant endeavour to curb the termination of illegal international long distance (ILD) calls in India.

Such calls also result in the evasion of payment of the access deficit charge (ADC) to fixed line operators, especially BSNL and MTNL, causing substantial loss of revenue to the exchequer.

"They also pose serious threats to the national security when anti-national elements using these traffic channels are able to evade the scrutiny of law enforcement authorities," said a VSNL spokesperson.
