Organic Farming Society at Kottayam

Our Correspondent

KOTTAYAM: Farmers have come together to free their farms from using chemical fertilisers as they would like to encourage organic farming in their holdings. They have formed an Organic Farming Society to propagate the advantages of organic farming among themselves.

The new knowledge should reach maximum number of agriculturists, Mr K.J. Jacob, President of the Society, said. Exploitation of the immense potential of organic farming is also another objective. While there is grater acceptance of environment-friendly organic farming at the international level, it is for the first time in Kerala an attempt is made to bring the farmers together under a common umbrella, Mr Jacob said.

Mr K.M. Mathew, Chief Editor of Malayala Manorama will inaugurate the Society on Saturday. Mr. P.J. Joseph, former Minster, and Mr R Hali, former Director of Agriculture, are patrons and Mr K.C. Eapen is Vice-President of the Society.
