Software Infosys, Australian centre tie up for research efforts Our Bureau
Bangalore , Nov. 12 SOFTWARE major Infosys Technologies has tied up with the Australia-based Smart Internet Technology Cooperative Research Centre (Smart Internet) for joint efforts in research and development. Infosys is investing A$ 8,00,000 in Australian R&D over the next four years as part of the agreement, which was recently signed in New Delhi between the Chairman and Chief Mentor, Mr N.R. Narayana Murthy, and the Chairman of Smart Internet, Mr Neville Roach. The tie-up will help Smart Internet to develop, commercialise and export Australian intellectual property whereas it will give Infosys an opportunity to explore new ways of generating market-driving intellectual property and further augment its competitive positioning, according to an Infosys release issued here. The initial focus of collaborative effort would be on banking, commerce, health and entertainment industry segments. Smart Internet will work directly with the Software Engineering and Technology Labs (SETLabs) of Infosys in Bangalore, for research in mobility, pervasive computing, agent technologies, security and digital rights management, the release said. As a leading IT innovator and research organisation, the company will provide key skills and insights to support Smart Internet's research and commercial objectives. The tie-up is expected to provide commercial benefits to the Commonwealth Government and State Governments in the form of new employment and revenue opportunities. An exchange of knowledge and skills will also benefit Australian researchers who will work with Infosys on collaborative R&D projects.
