CCEA clears MSP operations for Maharashtra

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Nov. 12

THE Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has permitted the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) to undertake minimum support price (MSP) operations in Maharashtra.

However, CCI will be allowed to undertake MSP operations in the State on the condition that the State Government takes effective steps to discontinue the Maharashtra Raw Cotton (Procurement, Processing and Marketing) Act, 1971. This was decided at the CCEA meeting, which was held here on Thursday.

Furthermore, the CCEA also decided that the Central Government would reimburse any loss that the CCI may suffer due to providing MSP. Incidentally this is already done in other cotton growing States.
