Bank credit up by Rs 17,259 cr

GROSS bank credit grew by Rs 17,259 crore during the fortnight ended October 29, to touch Rs 9,88,276 crore.

This is inclusive of food-credit which grew by Rs 3,752 crore to Rs 39,712 crore and non-food credit which grew by Rs 13,506 crore to Rs 9,48,565 crore, according to the weekly statistical supplement of the Reserve Bank of India.

Loans and advances to State Governments decreased by Rs 1,124 crore to touch Rs 3,336 crore.

Total accommodation provided by scheduled commercial banks to the commercial sector in the form of bank credit and investments in shares, debentures, bonds and commercial paper etc, increased by Rs 1,46,366 crore to touch Rs 10,40,479 crore. Year-on-year money supply was at 14.1 per cent.
