Bellary generator concretised

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd (KPCL) achieved a milestone in the construction of the 500-megawatt Bellary thermal station by concreting the turbine generator shaft in 36 hours.

A KPCL release said that the concreting involving 8,532 bags of cement and 280 tonnes of cement was done in a single continuous pour within 36 hours. The concrete placed was pre-cooled, maintaining a placement temperature of 23 degrees centigrade by using 70 tonnes of ice.

The release said that the work was completed on Thursday and was two months ahead of the best effort schedule.
