C.R. Sukumar

Manikonda Jagir , Nov. 15

IN a bid to convince the global investment and industrial community of the new Government's commitment towards aggressively promoting information technology in Andhra Pradesh, while putting the rural economy `back on the rails', the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said his Government plans, in the next one year, to replicate and even do more than what the previous Government did for the IT industry in the last eight years.

Addressing a select gathering after inaugurating the new campus of Microsoft Corporation at Manikonda Jagir on Monday, Dr Reddy said his Government, which completed six months yesterday, has already succeeded in building confidence among the industry on its commitment towards providing the necessary industrial infrastructure.

Stating that around 400 acres of IT infrastructure had come up in the regime of the previous Government , he said his Government plans to develop IT infrastructure in over 480 acres in the next 12 months alone.

The Chief Minister said the Government was committed to provide congenial atmosphere for the industry to thrive. Dr Reddy said his Government would effectively use IT for serving the needs of rural economy.

The Government proposes to complete the project of connecting the villages in the next 2-3 years. "We want to take IT to the doorsteps of the common man to better his life," the Chief Minister said.

Dr Reddy said the Government would effectively exploit IT infrastructure to provide best education, medi-care and marketing facilities for strengthening the rural economy.

Along with aggressively promoting the software sector, the Government also has major plans to boost growth of the hardware sector, the Chief Minister said. He said the groundbreaking ceremony for a billion-dollar hardware Fab facility would be performed `very soon'. He, however, refused to provide details.
