`Declare Perur as heritage centre'

THE Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Coimbatore has made a plea to declare Perur, where the famous Sri Patteeswarar temple is located, as a heritage tourism centre in view of its historic and cultural importance.

In a representation to the Union Tourism Minister Ms Renuka Choudhury, the ICCI President, Mr A. Sakthivel said: "Coimbatore region has been home to the famous Sri Patteeswarar temple in Perur and Sri Murugan temple at Marudamalai, both near the city. It is also a gateway to hill stations like Udhagamandalam and Kodaikanal, wildlife spots like Anamalai Hills and also the pilgrim centre Palani."

ICCI has taken up development of Perur as a heritage town.
