Symposium on titanium minerals in Thiruvananthapuram

THE Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) is conducting an international symposium on `Metal and materials from titanium minerals' here on Wednesday, as part of the 42nd National Metallurgy Day celebrations.

The occasion also marks the 58th annual technical meet of the institute.

The focus of the symposium is on the processing of beach sand of Kerala, which is rich in rare earth minerals, the production of titanium intermediaries and the application of titanium alloys.

According to spokespersons of the institute, the annual technical meet will be held on Thursday and Friday and it will feature oral and poster categories of technical papers. A record number of 412 technical papers have been accepted for presentation in both categories, they said.

As many as 650 delegates, including 15 from abroad, have already registered to participate in the event.
