Mulberry health drink launched

BANGALORE: The Central Sericulture Research and Training Institute has come out with a health drink made from mulberry leaves, used predominantly for raising silkworm.

The Mysore-based research centre has launched the tea, which is said to have several medicinal values.

The health drink was formally launched on Tuesday by Mr H. Basker, Secretary, Central Silk Board, in Mysore at the ongoing Reshme Krishi Mela.

Branded as `Spoorthi', the drink has been developed by scientists at the Mysore institute and is believed to be a panacea for diabetes and hypertension. It can also be used as an energy drink.

Mulberry farmers can tap the plant for supplementing their income by producing Spoorthi, Mr Basker said.
