Human Resources TeamLease to train students in BPO job skills Our Bureau
Bangalore , Nov. 16 BANGALORE'S BPO workforce requirement is around 3,500 people per month and only 30 per cent of the graduates opt for a BPO job. According to a Nasscom report, the total manpower demand in the BPO sector is estimated to touch 11.2 lakh by the year 2009. To fill this gap in the job market, TeamLease Services, a staffing solutions company, on Tuesday launched a BPO-ITeS training programme for students of graduate and technical colleges. The training programme focuses on enhancing the skills required for a BPO job like improving vocabulary and communication skills, neutralising regional accents, etc. The programme also helps students understand the cultural nuances of various countries, geographical and social issues that are of relevance to the business. Apart from this, students will also have the opportunity to interact with HR managers of BPO companies to discuss career issues. Ms Kavitha Reddy, Assistant Vice-President, TeamLease Services, says, "Currently only three-five per cent of the people applying for BPO-ITeS jobs get selected. This has forced the industry to look at options to meet their workforce requirements." Through this initiative, TeamLease hopes to bridge the gap between the employable and the retrainable category. This will also reduce the recruitment time and costs involved. The pilot project currently running in the city covers two colleges and more than 100 students. Depending on the interest level shown by smaller cities such as Mangalore and Mysore, TeamLease plans to take the programme there, Ms Reddy says.
