Talks with World Bank

HYDERABAD: The State Government has held preliminary talks with the representatives of the World Bank here on Tuesday with regard to funding the on-going and new irrigation projects in the State.

According to the State Minister for Major Irrigation, Mr P. Lakshmaiah, the World Bank representatives, Mr Gajan Padmanabhan and Mr R.S. Pathak, have shown keen interest on the projects involving interlinking of rivers. In this context, he said the bank officials have expressed their interest on the proposed Polavaram project.

Mr Laxmaiah told newspersons that the State Government had written to the Department of Economic Affairs to seek World Bank's assistance to the pending and also the proposed irrigation projects in the State. These projects were estimated to cost Rs 46,000 crore.
