SATYAM Computer Services Ltd plans to expand its Chennai operations by setting up a 100-acre development centre in the city with a 15,000-employment capacity. According to a State Government press release, the Satyam Computer Chairman, Mr B. Ramalinga Raju, on Wednesday met the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Ms J. Jayalalithaa, and requested her for the allotment of land in order to consolidate and grow the company's operations in the city.

Giving assurance of her support, the Chief Minister requested Satyam to also undertake developmental activities as part of corporate social responsibility, the release said.

Satyam started its Chennai operations in 1997 with an export of Rs 2 crore. Today, it has six offices and employs around 3,500 employees in the city. It had exports worth Rs 154 crore for the year ended March 2004 from the city operations, the release said.

The Hyderabad-based software company has projected its exports from Chennai to grow to Rs 400 crore. The release did not provide a timeframe for achieving the target.
