Newly taxable services

The Central Board of Excise and Customs has issued two notifications nos 18/2004 and 25/2004 both dated 10/09/2004 clarifying the position of the newly taxable services, prior to the passing of the Budget.

In both these notifications, the board has exempted services from service tax if `they are received prior to October 10'. While this is welcome, the fineprint of this is those new services with the inserted definitions or erstwhile services, which have been rendered prior to the passing of the budget, will be subject to a service tax.
