Agricultural Institutions Icrisat training centre Our Bureau
HYDERABAD: The International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (Icrisat) has commissioned a demonstration-cum-training unit for distilling ingredients from medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) at its campus at Patancheru, near here. The facility was established by Icrisat in collaboration with a private company, MAK Royale. According to an institute release here on Monday, the watershed team at the institute is working to increase the income of farmers through cultivation and marketing of MAPs. However, as the buyers control the MAP market, the farmers, who cannot hold their produce for a long period, are unable to realise remunerative prices. Hence, to enable the farmers to command a better price, it has been decided to conduct trainings for farmers and non-Government organisations on producing value-added products from MAPs.
