Facility managers pool in offing

Bangalore , Nov. 22

IFMA India, the Indian arm of International Facility Management Association, and Nasscom (the National Association of Software and Services Companies), will work together to facilitate infrastructure development across the country.

The two organisations will leverage each other's expertise to develop recommendations that will improve the quality of life and the workplace. Mr Kiran Karnik, President, Nasscom, said at "India Workspace 2004" that facility managers across cities should create a common expertise pool, which can then be used by Nasscom in its various recommendations.

IFMA India also announced that it was in talks with various institutions to introduce facility management as a full-time course in their curriculum. This will increase awareness of the discipline as a career option among students.

"Facility management has always been critical to the functioning of organisations and its importance is being recognised across industries today," said Mr Sanjeev Verma, acting President, IFMA India Chapter.

"Our new initiatives are aimed at making students future practitioners, aware of the potential that a career in facility management offers."

IFMA India announced the above initiative at India Workspace 2004, held at Bangalore between November 18 and 21.
