Hyderabad , Nov. 23

VICTORIAN Chemical Co (VCC) of Australia, a manufacturer of agricultural oleo chemicals, is launching Victoria Drying Oil (VDO) in Andhra Pradesh next month and subsequently in Karnataka.

The company claims that VDO reduces the natural drying time of red chillies and paprika by 40 per cent.

The VCC Regional Manager (Asia), Mr Gary Oxer, told newspersons that apart from reducing the drying time, VDO imparts better colour appearance and texture to the dried produce.

The product, approved by the US FDA, was not only biodegradable but also non-toxic. It should be mixed with water and potassium carbonate and sprayed on freshly harvested red chillies.

Mr Oxer said VCC, in collaboration with the Spices Board, had conducted widescale demonstration trails of VDO in the chilli-growing regions of Andhra Pradesh during 2001 and 2002 chilli seasons. A remarkable reduction in aflatoxin was found on VDO-treated produce during the trials.

The VCC Country Manager (India), Mr Pratap Arora, said the product would be sold through reputed seed companies operating in the country. The company was expecting to sell one lakh litres of VDO per annum in the country in the next five years.

Mr Arora said VCC was also ready to launch the product in Pakistan.
