NEW DELHI: Samsung on Tuesday said it plans to expand its research and development (R&D) operations in India by doubling the headcount in the existing centres of Bangalore and Noida, over the next three years.

"We have 700 people in our R&D centre in Bangalore, which focuses on developing software for printers and networking. We expect to double this in the next 3 years," Mr K.S. Kim, President and CEO, Samsung South West Asia Regional Headquarters said.

The company's R&D centre at Noida is involved in software format for digital TV, and houses 150 professionals. "This too would be doubled in the next 2-3 years," he said.

Samsung's existing R&D facilities are located in the US, Tokyo, Russia, Korea and China amongst others destinations. "India is a global R&D hub for the company," he said but did not divulge the investment details planned for next year.
