New Delhi , Nov. 23

SONY India Pvt Ltd on Tuesday launched its premium product, the VAIO range of personal computers in India.

"The Sony VAIO notebook focuses on offering consumers new ways of enjoying computing and personal entertainment through a dynamic transformation that removes boundaries between audio/video and IT products," Mr Katsuhiko Murase, Division Head, CAV Marketing Division, Sony India, said at a conference here. He said VAIO is already available in markets such as Japan, the US, Europe, China and some South Asian countries.

"India is witnessing significant economic growth and there is a growing affluence amongst consumers. We feel this is the right time to launch VAIO in India," he said. The VAIO range in India will comprise three global models — VGN-T16GP, VGN-B55G and VGN-S26GP — aimed at medium to high-end consumers, with its price tag starting from about Rs 83,000.

"The VAIO experience is not limited by time, space or location and its uniqueness stems not only from performance and function, but also from the look and feel," he said. The Sony VAIO notebook focuses on connecting every form of audio-visual entertainment with every aspect of IT.

The goal of VAIO is to connect products, not only through innovative technologies, but also through digital content such as images, sounds, music and data, Mr Murase said. The VGN-T16GP, with one-touch music and movie functions, incorporates Intel Centrino Mobile Technology with Intel Pentium M Processor Ultra Low Voltage 733 and has the ability to deliver up to eight hours of battery back-up.

It also incorporates a 26.92 cm WXGA (1280 x 768) LCD display and a CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive for high quality DVD movie viewing.
