New Delhi , Nov. 23

THE Power Minister, Mr P.M. Sayeed, assured full autonomy to Electricity Regulatory Commissions and said he would talk to State Governments for providing administrative and infrastructure support to the regulatory institutions.

Mr Sayeed was addressing a meeting of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) and 22 State Electricity Regulatory Commissions on Tuesday. He said the Central Government was committed to provide full autonomy to regulatory commissions so that they can operate on professional lines, a CERC release said.

During the meeting, several State regulators told Mr Sayeed that State Governments were not providing them the required administrative and infrastructure support. Assuring full support to the regulators for implementing electricity reforms, the Minister said he would take up the matter with the respective State Governments.
