Kala Academy gets facelift for Goa film festival

PANAJI'S Kala Academy, which is the main venue for the 35th International Film Festival of India, was remodelled to meet the programmatic requirements from the interior to exterior.

Designed by well-known architect Charles Correa, the Academy was conceived as a Centre for Performing Arts for local Konkani and Marathi music, dance and theatre and also to play host to international troupes.

"New insertions to the building are made in glass to temper the impact modification of the built form, temporary wooden deck has been built to meet the client requisite to ferry VIPs for the film festival across the Mandovi River from the Taj Aguada," a press release said.
