HK expects higher tourist arrivals for WinterFest

Our Bureau

Bangalore , Nov. 24

THIS winter Hong Kong expects a higher turnout of tourists, with the country anticipating a 13.4 per cent increase in tourist arrivals during the five-week special WinterFest programme starting November 26 to January 2, 2005.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) will stage its Hong Kong WinterFest programme for the third consecutive year January 2005. The board expects that the programme will boost visitor arrivals to 2.49 million.

HKTB said that visitor arrivals for the first nine months of 2004 had already surpassed 15.7 million mark and exceeded the total for the full year in 2003.

"With the added appeal of Hong Kong WinterFest, we are confident that the growth momentum will continue through the last quarter of the year. We have therefore revised our forecast for 2004 from 20.5 million to 21.3 million, said HKTB Executive Director, Ms Clara Chong.
