Damage to KSRTC buses

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Six hundred and sixty-two buses have been damaged in hartal-related incidents in the State during the period from June 1, 2000, to August 31, 2004.

An official spokesman said here that all these buses belonged to the public sector Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC). Also, 247 policemen have received in hartal-related incidents during the period. Forty-nine educational institutions and 155 installations of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) also sustained damages.

The losses suffered add up to more than Rs 1.5 crore, the spokesman said. The KSRTC has continued to be the prime target of the hartal enforcers, whichever party they belonged to. It maintains a fleet of 3,800 buses, of which more than 17 per cent suffered damage in one hartal or the other during the period.
