Foreign trade fair avenues for AP small-scale units

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , Nov. 24

SMALL-SCALE units registered in the State have opportunities to participate in a series of international trade fairs abroad during February-March.

To facilitate their easy participation, the Small Industries Service Institute (SISI) here, a field level office of the Small Industries Development Organisation (SIDO), has come up with some incentives.

These include exhibition of products free of cost at the trade fairs - which means the small-scale unit need not pay for the rent of space, shipping and insurance, according to a press release from SISI.

SIDO, which is under the Union Ministry of Small Scale Industry, will participate in these international trade Fairs - the Spring Fair at Birmingham, UK, February 6-10; 9th Addis Chamber International Trade Fair, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, February 17-23; MUBA 2005 at Basel in Switzerland, February 18-27; 23rd Expocomer International Fair, Panama City, March 2-6, and the Cairo International Fair, Cairo during March 15-25.

The Birmingham fair will cover domestic products, gifts, travel and jewellery.

The Addis Ababa event will focus on engineering goods, agriculture and machinery parts and other products from the SSI industry across the world. MUBA 2005 in Switzerland will deal with a range of typical SSI products, and the Panama City fair will concentrate on food, beverages, clothing, sports and entertainment and computer ware.

The Cairo fair will deal with cotton, mineral fuel and oils, ceramic, oils, spices and fabric.

According to an SISI press release, the small-scale units have to send in their exhibits and those selected will be part of SIDO at the international fairs. However, the units have to bear the costs of sending the exhibits to Mumbai, on being recommended by the Director, SISI, here, with gross weight not exceeding 20 kg.
