Expansion plans for Technopark

Sankar Radhakrishnan

Thiruvananthapuram , Nov. 26

THE Kerala State Information Technology Mission is in the process of finalising plans for expanding the Technopark Thiruvananthapuram.

Land for this purpose has already been acquired very close to the Technopark's existing 156-acre campus, said Ms Aruna Sundararajan, the State Information Technology Secretary.

In the first phase of the expansion initiative, a new building with 400,000 square feet of office space will be built, she added. Work on the design of the new building has already started, she said. The investment in the first phase of this initiative is expected to be Rs 40 crore.

Of the 90-odd acres earmarked for the Technopark expansion project, some land will be kept aside for building campuses for various institutions such as the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala, she explained.

However a good amount of land will also be used to create "social infrastructure" for the Technopark, Ms Sundararjan added. This will include facilities such as a convention centre, entertainment facilities, hotels and so on. Companies based in the technology park have been asking for such amenities, she pointed out.

The State's Information Technology Mission is also planning to construct one more building at the Infopark Kochi, Ms Sundararajan said.

This is in response to the demand for additional office space in the Infopark. The new building will provide between 150,000 and 200,000 square feet of space, she added.
