Kerala plans Driving School Council

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has decided to set up a Driving School and Establishment Council with the Transport Commissioner as its Chairman.

An official quoted the Transport Minister, Mr N. Sakthan, as saying that the new Council will concern itself with the tasks of raising the quality bar at recognised driving schools holding a license from the Motor Vehicles Department as well as of generating public awareness on a host of issues including road safety.

The decision on setting up the Council was made at a meeting of top officials convened by the Minister in response to a representation submitted by the All Kerala Driving School Instructors and Workers Association. The Minister has also directed that urgent steps be taken to rein in unrecognised schools carrying on illegal business.
