Bangalore , Nov. 28

TATA Tubes, which is streamlining its channel network, has appointed Shankara Pipes as channel partner for south Karnataka including Bangalore.

Mr Sukumar Srinivas, Managing Director of Shankara Pipes, told newspersons that with the streamlining of channel network, overlapping of roles and cross-selling between partners will be eliminated.

Shankara Pipes will be the sole supplier of black and galvanised tubes for Tata Tubes in its region.

Mr Srinivas also said that the company expects to clock a turnover of around Rs 500 crore by 2007. Its current turnover is around Rs 240 crore.

Shankara Pipes is studying the Sri Lankan market and is expected to open an office there.

The company plans to strengthen its network in Maharashtra and other parts of the country soon.

Mr Sukumar said that Shankara will have its own certification process in place soon, which will enable it to test all material before dispatching it to customers. Shankara distributes around 6,000 metric tonnes of steel tubes every month.

The company supplies around 25 per cent of its products to the automobile component industry, 25 per cent to the housing sector and the rest to the infrastructure industry.
