CMP and economy

This is with reference to "Common Minimum Programme - Will Manmohan-Chidambaram duo play the magic flute?"(Business Line, November 30). With the advent of globalisation, the role of the government in welfare administration has eclipsed. Now, the government is only a facilitator, not a doer. This is the mantra of structural reforms also.

It is the vibrant citizenry that can do wonders. They should be active partners of development process rather than passive recipients of benefits. Public-private partnership and role of NGOs should therefore be promoted.

C. Ramesh
