New Delhi , Nov. 30

THE Union Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr Kamal Nath, has convened a meeting on December 11 with all export promotion councils, commodity boards and other outfits concerned to push the country's exports, which are already on an upswing, to reach a level of $76 billion during the current fiscal.

The objective of this meeting is essentially to review the country's export performance in the light of the new Foreign Trade Policy, which was announced earlier this year, and to discuss further steps as might be required midway to accelerate exports, an official release said.

An export target of 16 per cent growth corresponding to a level of $73.4 billion has been fixed for the current fiscal, which is higher than the target for the last two years of 12 per cent. Latest foreign trade figures suggest that the exports during the first seven months of the fiscal April to October 2004 had crossed $40 billion.
