AP: Congress MPs to lobby for State interests at Centre

Hyderabad , Nov. 30

THE State Government has decided to make a coordinated effort, involving all the MPs from the ruling party, to lobby with the Centre in order to get things of State interest done.

The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajsekhara Reddy, convened a meeting of Congress MPs, representing both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, here on Tuesday ahead of the Winter Session of Parliament.

In order to coordinate the efforts, Mr Mallu Ravi, senior Congress leader, had been appointed the Special Representative of the State at New Delhi, with the rank of Cabinet Minister. He will take charge on Dec 2. A Special Secretary, too, will be named.

However, only one Union Minister, Ms Panabaka Lakshmi, from the State took part in the meeting that discussed various problems concerning the State. Twenty-three Lok Sabha MPs and six MPs from Rajya Sabha were present at the meet, which was also attended by several Congress Ministers in the State Cabinet.

Dr Reddy threw light on the state of affairs with regard to various irrigation projects and the ongoing talks process with CPI (Maoists) and CPI (ML) Janashakti.

Asking the MPs to give a powerful voice to the issues related the State in Parliament, the Chief Minister said their support was more important in realising funds, loans and statutory Central clearances to several irrigation projects.

The demand for setting up an IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) at Basara (Adilabad district) too figured in the meeting. The Centre had agreed to set up an IIT PG Centre instead of a full-fledged institute at Basara.
