National Institute of Technology signs MoU with IBM

Bangalore , Nov. 30

THE National Institute of Technology, Karnataka (NITK) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with IBM India Ltd for developing infrastructure and resources to improve the quality of its technical education.

The MoU would also give NITK's academic programmes more reach through the creation and adoption of e-learning content for its engineering programmes and e-learning strategy. Through this, the Institute hopes to minimise administrative overheads and closely monitor its student performance.

As a part of the MoU, IBM will enable NITK to create e-learning solutions using IBM content producing and simulation producer tools for content development; evolve performance management systems using IBM Teacher's Workbench tool and develop campus automation solutions for academic programmes and evaluation policies.

NITK and IBM would jointly implement the project as NITK-STEP. A steering committee would be set up, comprising teams from both organisations to implement the project and fulfil its objectives.

"We were looking for world class e-learning solutions and found that IBM met our requirements, by assessing and redesigning our instructional processes, integrating learning into our enterprise systems and delivering an open, reliable and scalable learning platform. With IBM tools, our faculty will be able to create live and interactive content for students to aid the learning process," Professor S.S. Murthy, Director, NITK was quoted as saying in the release.
