Mumbai , Dec. 1

TELEDATA Informatics Ltd, which is an enterprise resource planning (ERP) software provider for the education and marine sectors, has entered the voice over Internet protocol business (VoIP) for international long distance (ILD) telephony.

The company said it has won a Rs 30-crore contract from the Nagaland Government for job-oriented ITES courses; and that it has tied up with Singapore Maritime Academy for marine distance education.

For VoIP, Teledata's Singapore subsidiary, Insoft Systems Pte Ltd, a basic telecommunications operators, has tied up with ETCSA Cuba for terminating calls to Cuba totalling 15 million minutes a month, said a release from Teledata.

"As per the agreement, we will set up necessary equipment on the build, own, operate and transfer model for VoIP traffic routing and manage the system using our software for the call routing facility," said Mr K. Padmanabhan, Managing Director, Teledata. The equipment will cost approximately Rs 15.8 crore.

The facilities created by Teledata will route the calls to Cuba from Singapore. Teledata has already installed the equipment and tried them out with a minimum legacy period. Teledata will have a spread of 5 cents a minute, of which 60 per cent will go towards operation and maintenance. For 10 million minutes of traffic, Teledata expects $5,00,000 a month as net revenue and a net profit of $2,00,000 a month.

Insoft has also tied up with other global telecom operators such as Sprint and AT&T to route calls to Cuba through their facility. Insoft will offer wholesale and aggregation services in ILD, said the release.

The agreement with Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA), a division of Singapore Polytechnic, is to provide the latter distance education for marine professionals.

While SMA will provide the subject matter, Teledata, through its facilities in Thailand, will develop content on the Web using its own content authoring and management system.

The project is expected to be completed in the next six months.
