H-P arm's back office in Chennai

Raja Simhan T.E.

Chennai , Dec. 2

HEWLETT-Packard's Global e-Business Operations Pvt. Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Hewlett-Packard Europe BV, has set up a large back office facility in Chennai.

The subsidiary, which is H-P's captive back office in India, now employs around 800 people in its Chennai office. This is in addition to around 2,500 people employed in its Bangalore centre, said sources.

It is learnt that the Chennai back office does transaction processing for debit and credit records and order processing, for H-P's global operations.

When asked to comment on Chennai operations, a company spokesperson at H-P, in Bangalore declined to give details, and said, "We would not like to comment anything on Chennai operations at this moment."

With complete integration of Compaq's different units worldwide and the increased flow of financial services from the merged entity helped H-P e-Business grow its internal billing revenues by a healthy margin, said a recent study.
